Immunizations - NDCC 23-07-17 mandates all students in kindergarten through 12th grade meet a minimum number of required immunizations prior to school entrance, and each school is legally responsible for excluding non-compliant students after October 1 of the school year. Children enrolling in school after October 1 have 30 days to be up-to-date or claim an exemption or they must be excluded from school. The McKinney-Vento Assistance Act which provides protections for those experiencing homelessness and Education Stability Act which provides protections for those in foster care, both require students to be enrolled immediately even if their immunization records are missing or unavailable. Health Insurance Programs - 15.1-02-19. The NDDPI and the DHHS jointly developed a system under which families of children enrolling in the public-school system are provided with information regarding state and federally funded health insurance programs and are encouraged to apply for such coverage if determined to be eligible. If children get free or reduced-price school meals, they may also be able to get free or low-cost health insurance through Medicaid or the State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP). Children with health insurance are more likely to get regular health care and are less likely to miss school because of sickness. Dear Parents and Families - Family engagement is important to Kenmare Public School. Engagement does not require you to be at the school for every event. It can be as simple as asking your child what they learned in school each day. This will also help students with comprehension. Family Engagement is a North Dakota Initiative. Here are the state survey results:
In the spring of 2023, the NDDPI partnered with research consultants at Gallup to survey North Dakota K-12 public school families statewide. This was offered in English and Spanish and administered in all eight regions of our state. Consultants helped lead the research, analysis, and reporting phases of the NDDPI family engagement study. The survey question themes cover various topics, including general questions, curriculum, student support, safety in schools, communication, and assessment perceptions.
Information is power and we hope this study will provide valuable feedback as you strive toward excellence with Family Engagement in your school district. We have provided a link below to the NDDPI-Gallup Family Engagement Study report, which shows an overview of the key findings in school-family partnerships, parents’ perceptions of academic progress, and optimizing the school environment.
