BND HOSTING FAFSA WORKSHOPS FOR FAMILIES To help students and their families navigate through the process of completing the FAFSA and know what to expect afterward, Bank of North Dakota is offering a free series of virtual meetings. These 60-minute sessions will be conversational, so they can ask questions as they arise. To register for each session, parents and students can go to bnd.nd.gov/fafsa. If they are unable to join a session live, they should still register to receive a link with the recording. In addition to this virtual series, BND also offers in-person and virtual FAFSA presentations and FSA ID workshops to schools across the state. High school administrators and counselors can make a request at bnd.nd.gov/request-a-fafsa-presentation/. The long-anticipated release of the simplified FAFSA, also known as the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, is coming soon. Typically, the FAFSA opens on October 1 of each year, but this year there is a delay. Federal Student Aid will open the FAFSA in December, with an official date yet to be announced. That means, any student attending college during the 2024-25 school year, will complete the new form. The FAFSA Simplification Act and Fostering Undergraduate Talent by Unlocking Resources for Education Act (FUTURE Act) streamlines the FAFSA, expands access to federal student aid, and allows for enhanced data sharing between Federal Student Aid and the IRS. The new form has fewer questions and includes new features that will make it simpler to complete for students and their families. Also with this update, the formulas used to qualify for aid have changed. While Federal Student Aid expects that these changes will allow more students to qualify for need based aid, like the Pell Grant, some students may not receive as much need-based aid as they have in the past. Changes in factors impacting aid eligibility include family size, number of dependents in college and reporting assets if they’re a farmer, business owner or based on their Adjusted Gross Income. Let’s get ready for the FAFSA! November 29 at 7 p.m. CT Learn what you need to prepare so you can complete the FAFSA when it goes live. You will learn about the Federal Student Aid ID, granting consent to transfer Federal Tax Information, and which information you need prior to starting the FAFSA. Walk through the FAFSA Form/ Understand parent guidelines December 20 at 7 p.m. CT It’s time to complete the FAFSA. We’ll preview the form and discuss the guidelines to determine which parent(s) need to contribute Federal Tax Information. You’ve completed the FAFSA. Now what? January 24 at 7 p.m. CT Congrats! You’ve completed the FAFSA. We’ll discuss the types of financial aid that are available and how they are outlined on your offer of financial aid.

Have a good week Honkers! Good luck to all of our athletes and coaches!

🏅 Congratulations to our High School Students of the Month for November! 🏅
Logan Peterson, the son of Michael and Kelly Peterson, is representing the middle school as November Student of the Month. As an eighth grader, Logan has been active in football, trapshooting, golf, FFA and LYO.
Logan is proud of being on the A Honor roll. He is also proud of trying something new last spring and joining the golf team.
Logan feels education is important to be successful in life. His goal is to graduate with a college degree and return home to work on the family farm. But first, Logan wants to place in State for Trapshooting.
As a freshman, Charlotte Brekhus has been named November Student of the Month for the 9th and 10th grade. Charlotte’s parents are Joanna and Mike Brekhus.
Golf, volleyball, basketball, track, FBLA and FFA are just a few of the activities that keep Charlotte busy. Charlotte is proud of being a part of those activities.
Education is important to Charlotte because she has learned the importance of hard work and she has gained several problem solving skills. Her future goal is to attend college and major in the medical field.
The daughter of Doug and Laura Miller, Mashae Miller represents the junior class as the November Student of the Month for grades 11 and 12.
Mashae is active in cross country, basketball and track and she is proud to be a part of each sport.
Through education, Mashae wants to get a good job in order to support herself and her family. She would like to go somewhere warm for college and possibly play sports while in college. But for now, her goal is to have a good time with the basketball girls and do well in track this spring without ANY injuries!
