📣 High School Students of the Month for February 📣
Representing the junior and senior class, Audrey Kihle was selected as February Student of the Month. Audrey is the daughter of Megan and Matt Kihle. She keeps active with volleyball, FBLA and rodeo competitions.
Audrey said she is proud to be part of the supportive and kind community of Kenmare. She is also proud all of her hard work and dedication is paying off in her classes with good grades.
Education is important to Audrey as a way to become successful and a better person all the way around. Through education, she hopes to go into nursing and become an RN (registered nurse). Audrey wants to make a positive influence and make a difference in many people’s lives.
Anna Petersen was nominated by the KHS faculty to represent the freshmen and sophomores as the Student of the Month for February. As the daughter of Kris and Sarah Petersen, Anna has been active in cross country, girls basketball, track, FFA, 4-H and speech. Being a part of all these activities is something in which Anna is proud.
Anna feels education is important as she learned through education how to apply things she learns in school to real-life situations in order to become successful. Anna would like to finish high school with straight A’s and have the opportunity to attend whatever college she chooses.
Student of the month for February representing the 6th/7th/8th grade is Maggi Gill, daughter of Justin and Tawnya Gill. Even as a sixth grader, Maggi has been active in volleyball and girls basketball. When the opportunity arises, she hopes to become involved in track and field, drama and speech. She is also proud of being on the Kenmare MathCounts team all four years of being eligible.
Education is important to Maggi because she wants to make a difference and build a career. Maggi hopes to become involved in more activities. In the future, she hopes her education will lead her in the direction of the performing arts industry or the designer industry.

Baesler Seeks Candidates for Superintendent’s Student Cabinet
A Chance for Students to Give Their Views on Education
State School Superintendent Kirsten Baesler is asking North Dakota students to apply to serve on her Superintendent’s Student Cabinet, which offers an opportunity for young people to advise her about ways to improve K-12 education.
Any student in grades 3-12 attending a North Dakota public or nonpublic K-12 school, or in the first year of attending a North Dakota college is eligible to apply. Student Cabinet terms last about 18 months. Meetings are typically held at the state Capitol in Bismarck every three months. Supt. Baesler said Student Cabinet members have an opportunity to influence K-12 education improvements across North Dakota and gain experience in leadership, public speaking, collaboration, and decision-making. Members are chosen to represent different age groups, cultures, school sizes, and regions within the state.
The Student Cabinet application form is on the NDDPI website. The deadline for applications is 5:00 PM CT on April 5, 2024. They may be emailed to dpipa@nd.gov, faxed to (701) 328-0203, or mailed to the ND Department of Public Instruction, 600 E. Boulevard Ave., Dept. 201, Bismarck, N.D., 58505.
If you have any questions, please contact Gwyn Marback at (701) 328-4518.
