Dear Families,

Next Wednesday, September 10th, KAMA is hosting the LifeLine Project for our 6-12 students in the morning and a training for our high school teachers in the afternoon. Our students in grades 6-12 will dismiss at 12:30 pm after they finish lunch. If you don't have transportation arranged, we will make sure a study space is provided for them to stay in the building until they are picked up or ride the bus home.

Thank you, Mrs. Hennix

Honker Supporters

The Student Council has expressed concerns about our upcoming homecoming week, scheduled for next week. Several events have been added to our school calendar that week, including the rescheduling of some sporting events.

The Student Council is concerned that many students will be absent from the building for sporting events and will therefore be unable to participate in the planned activities. We believe that it is important that all students have the opportunity to participate in as many activities as possible.

After careful consideration, we have decided to move our homecoming week to October 6th through October 10th. This will allow more of our students the opportunity to participate in all of the fun and memorable activities of Homecoming.

We apologize for any inconvenience that this may cause. Homecoming week is something that our students look forward to, and we want to make sure that they have as many opportunities as possible to participate.

We appreciate your support of this schedule change and our students.

Thank you.

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Next week, our school will be focusing on our annual lockdown/active intruder safety program. This is part of the regular training that all teachers complete each year, and our staff will also be teaching age-appropriate lessons to students at their grade levels.

Learn more about ALICE here → alicetraining.com

Our goal is to ensure that every student knows what to do in an emergency situation, while keeping the conversations developmentally appropriate and reassuring.

Please take a few minutes to review the attached document, which explains the program in more detail. If you have any questions or concerns after reading it, I encourage you to reach out.

Thank you for your continued partnership in keeping our school community safe.

Sincerely,
Alex Hennix

The Kenmare-Bowbells-Burke Central Honker cross country team traveled to Jamestown on Saturday, August 23rd for the Orriginals Invitational. This was a very large meet hosting 43 teams from both Class A and Class B divisions, all competing against each other on what will be the State meet course in October. With the early season meet, only a handful of Honkers had enough miles logged to be ready for the course, so 8 Honkers ran in the field of 772 total competitors. In the girls 5K race, Anna Petersen finished 15th overall and was the second-place finisher among class B racers with a time of 20:42. Addie Nelson was the 20th class B finisher (61st overall) with a full minute personal record of 22:39. Tenley Michel finished 30th among the class B competitors (84th overall) at 23:50 and Taley Michel was 32nd in the class B division (92nd overall) with a time of 24:06 against 132 total racers. The boys 5k field consisted of 197 competitors. Eli Anderson was the 6th place finisher among class B athletes (28th overall) with a time of 18:14. Phil Ankenbauer was the 10th place class B finisher (46th overall), shaving 94 seconds from his personal record at 18:48. In the girls 3K Bianca Sagness ran her inaugural race at this distance and was the 14th class B finisher (54th overall) with a time of 15:20 against a field of 91 athletes. The boys 3K wrapped up the meet with Emet Anderson competing for the first time at this distance. He was the 9th place class B finisher (56th overall) with a time of 13:41 in a field of 109 runners. This was a great meet for our athletes who ran many miles over the summer to set a baseline for their season, measure progress from last year, and shake the dust off their racing legs for the 2025 season. A special thank you to our fans and families who made the long drive to support Honker Cross Country, you are very appreciated! Full results from this meet can be accessed on athletic.net. The Honkers travel to Mandan on August 29th for their next meet.
